The FF-27 model is a windowed gas ratio monitor used to measure tritium (and C-14) surface contamination on a flat surface. FF-27 adopts a large rectangular windowless probe with a sensitive area of 100cm2 (6cmx21.6cm), which can quickly scan large areas. It also uses polyethylene tape to provide repeatable spacing with the surface and smooth, scratch free movement. Polyethylene tape is easy to clean, but can also be replaced if it is contaminated. FF-27 uses P-10 to count gas. It is non flammable and can be used in any environment. The instrument comes with two speech cylinders for P-10 gas, but due to transportation restrictions, they are empty. By carefully designing the probe and automatically shutting off the airflow when releasing the "trigger" on the probe handle, the use of P-10 gas is minimized. The gas flow rate is usually set at 800cc/min, which can be used for a total of one hour for lecture bottle sizes, and for larger cylinders, it can be used for a longer time. The typical counting efficiency is 70% 2pi of all tritium 3 emissions that escape from the surface. An optional 'H-panel' can be used, which will help improve counting efficiency when measuring objects that are not completely flat, such as hands, clothes, and equipment. Including PRS-7 scaler/counter/analyzer, this is a digital display pulse counter that covers 6 decimal ranges (1-100000 CPS or other selected units). The PRS-7 is battery powered, equipped with an internal lithium battery and charger, as well as an external 12V AC power input. The PRS-7 has a pre amplifier with a built-in single channel analyzer and two adjustable thresholds to select pulses based on pulse height and eliminate other noise. It can also scale the counter display over a wide range by multiplying, and the display can display pulse rate and total pulse count, with a timer that will stop the counter after a preset time interval. This includes an adjustable high-voltage power supply with a voltage range of 200-2500 volts, audio/visual alarms, and RS-232 data output.
