Chemical Properties of ceramic Mosi2 heating element:

 

Oxygen-resistance under high temperature: in oxidizing atmosphere, a layer of compact quartz protective film is formed on the surface of element owing to the high temperature combustion, which prevent Mosi2 from oxidizing more. When the element temperature is higher than 1700 °C, the film becomes melting. It’s not suitable for long time use in the temperature range of 400-700°C, otherwise, the element will be powdering for the strong oxidation under low temperature.

 

Chemical properties:

Anti-oxidation: exposed to high temperature in an oxidizing atmosphere, a layer of quartz glass(SiO2) protective film forms on the surface of element which prevents MoSi2 from continuously oxidizing. When the element temperature is higher than 1700C, the protective film will be fused to molten drops and lose its protective function because the fusion point of SiO2 is 1710℃. In the oxidizing atmosphere, when the element is used continuously, the protective film forms again.

Notes: it is inadvisable to operate the elements in the 400-700℃, otherwise, it will be powdered because of strong oxidation due to low temperature.
